Our Puppies & Family Standards
Our Puppies & Family Standards
At Mutiny Mist Cavaliers we believe in health testing and selective breeding based on those tests. The recommended tests include heart, eyes, hips, and patellas/knees. We also believe that an MRI to rule out SM is important, and so we MRI our breeding stock: all tests are web-listed (CHIC and UK cavaliers/MRI list).
We raise our puppies at home—in the house. They are socialized with family and other Cavaliers until immune ready to be socialized with others. Vaccines are conservatively given, following recommendations by Dr. Jean Dodds and Dr. Ronald Shultz. We are careful even about the brand of vaccines we use.
Diet is an important consideration—organic as possible, with no wheat, corn, or lamb. Treats are natural/organic: Wet Noses is our treat of choice. We recommend purchasing food at local independent pet food stores. The food we use is produced by a small company that uses their own facility and frequently tests their products and scrutinizes their suppliers.
Cavaliers are a fun-loving breed. They need to be active. A walk at least once a day is necessary (outside the family yard only after six months for a puppy). A physically fenced yard (no invisible fencing) is a must. We never leave a Cavalier unattended on the street or allow them to drink from communal dog bowls. Cats are not a part of our present family, so our puppies are not socialized with cats. We temperament test our puppies at eight weeks for family matching. We offer a one-year health guarantee and require return of Cavaliers of our breeding if an owner can no longer care for them. We appreciate and encourage continued contact with our Cavaliers and their families.
